Beam Global Introduces Ultra-Premium Rye Whiskey
Here is something new that crossed the wire recently. Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc., released its first ultra-premium rye whiskey. Beam Global is already a leader in the premium spirits world. (ri)1 should be an interesting twist for cocktails indeed, although some enthusiasts would cringe at the thought of mixing such an ultra-premium rye whiskey. The press release from Oct 27, Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc., Redefines Rye With Company’s First Ultra-Premium Rye Whiskey - (ri)1(TM), lists a traditional Manhattan as well as a new signature recipe, Rising Sun, as alternative choices for the increasing number of consumers who include whiskey in their sophisticated lifestyle choice.
The following are tasting notes from the official (ri)1 website to whet your appetite. (ri)1 debuts nationwide this month in limited quantities.
Tasting Notes
(rī)1TM Whiskey is the definition of ultra-premium rye whiskey and the measure by which all others should be judged. Both striking and smooth, (rī)1 beckons the senses to take note of its slightly spicy, yet lighter rye flavor and its long, luxurious finish.
· Admire the Color: Deep, rich honey color tinged with gold
· Nose the Aroma:
(Straight) – A peppery nose that pleases and surprises; a gentle wake-up call for your senses
(Diluted) – Dried fruit and cinnamon push the pepper to the background; a distinct, exciting preview that suggests a distinct, exciting whiskey
· Enjoy the Feel: Light and dry
· Savor the Taste:
(Straight) – Warm; fire on the edges of your tongue; honey flecked with pepper on the way down
(Diluted) – Sweet and a bit fruity; mellow sophistication
· Appreciate the Finish: Glowing and reassuring; medium-long, it lingers before quietly slipping away
· Price: $46-48 – 750ml bottle (varies by market)
“Straight rye whiskey is a bona fide comer because the increasingly sophisticated American palate is searching for new and exciting high-end spirits.”

I’ll have to look for this in FL. I prefer Rye in my Manhattans and of course, you cannot make a proper Sazerac without Rye Whiskey.

I saw this in two stores this weekend (one a small townie place and the other a large chain store) here in Boston.
I’m guessing from the price point that they’re marketing this as a sipping rather than a mixing rye. Although that doesn’t stop it from ending up in cocktails…

According to their press release, it is both. Spirits such as this offer up versatility to the consumer opening the market to a much wider spectrum. Some sip neat or on the rocks, while other enjoy the flair of cocktails with premium spirits rather than the run of the mill. Having many options is a good thing.
