Maker's Mark Barrel

Prohibition also known as Noble Experiment, but seldom referenced to it as such, is sumptuary law or law that attempts to regulate habits of consumption for the purpose of restraining luxury or extravagance.  In the case of liquor the sumptuary law reinforced social hierarchies and morals; theoretically.

The United States Prohibition Era lasted thirteen years.  Through that time the black market flourished and racketeering was prevalent to the point of corrupting law enforcement.  So much for social hierarchy and morals.  The economy seems to play a huge part in much of what we think and do as American people.  The law of Prohibition was not immune to the effects of economic despair.  The Great Depression added to the increasing disapproval of Prohibition by the greater share of the population.  December 5, 1933, The Eighteenth Amendment that enacted Prohibition was repealed with ratification of the Twenty-first Amendment.

CBS News Sunday Morning hosted by Charles Osgood is known for its focus on the arts, culture and as of this Sunday, November 23, Bourbon Whisky.  Martha Teichner, senior correspondent hosting the Bourbon industry segment Sunday morning, will focus on the 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition enacted December 5, 1933, and how Bourbon has evolved since that time.

Maker's Mark

Kentucky produces 95% of the world’s Bourbon supply.  It is only appropriate Martha Teichner and her crew spent a fair amount of time researching the Bourbon industry at a few of the leading Bourbon distilleries.  One such distillery was Maker’s Mark which happens to be participating in local Repeal Day activities being held throughout Bourbon Country.
